Food, Flowers, and Family Fun in Lycoming County
This adventure starts with a trip to the Growers Market in downtown Williamsport to choose some fresh, seasonal produce to take along to Loyalsock Forest State Park. Here, you can spend an hour or two hiking among ferns and hardwood forest to discover a lovely waterfall. After your hike, refuel at Bullfrog Brewery, where there is something on the menu for everyone. Finally, get some dessert, and maybe do a bit more plant shopping at the Potting Bench Greenhouse, Ice Cream, and Workshops.
The Williamsport Grower’s Market
Downtown Williamsport is charming, as we discovered on our walk to the Growers Market on Little League Blvd. Everything at the market is truly locally grown. There was a wide variety of beautiful fresh seasonal produce, along with other goods such as baked goods, fresh flowers, handmade housewares, and more. There was even some live music to enjoy while shopping. The Growers Market is open on Saturday mornings, from 8 to 12. Don’t miss the Amish moon pies!

Loyalsock State Forest
Loyalsock State Forest is a huge area of beautiful hardwood forest with a wide range of different hikes. You’re sure to see wildflowers, an abundance of vibrant green ferns, and interesting rock formations on any hike you choose.

We took the 2 mile out and back trail to Angel Falls. It was beautiful and challenging at the end, with steep rock scrambles just prior to the falls. We highly recommend it for school aged children who have some experience hiking. Your kids will not be bored on the Angel Falls trail, but they may get quite muddy, so dress accordingly!

Bullfrog Brewery
Bullfrog Brewery is a great spot to refuel after your hike, and it also has a great atmosphere and tasty brews. We enjoyed burgers, nachos, and salads after admiring the beautiful, detailed mural that stretches across the building where the restaurant is located. We ordered a flight of beers and enjoyed tasting an interesting variety of flavors including coffee, cider, and grapefruit! The restaurant is definitely kid-friendly and offers a menu for “tadpoles.”

The Potting Bench Greenhouse, Ice Cream, and Workshops
We loved getting dessert and doing some more plant shopping at this unique little establishment in South Williamsport. The ice cream was delicious (especially my blueberry crumble sundae), the atmosphere was gorgeous, with beautiful gardens and plenty of seating, and the shop had lots of lovely (and reasonably priced) plants and pottery. While it’s known for its ice cream and greenhouse, you can also get a tasty sandwich here.
