A Taste of History in Williamsport, PA
Little League was founded in Williamsport, which continues to host the Little League World Series today. You can learn all about it and see where it’s played at the World of Little League Museum. Then, hit the Thomas Taber Museum and learn about how the lumber boom led to the opulent Millionaires Row in which the museum is located. Finally, take a one-hour cruise down the beautiful Susquehanna River in the gorgeous Hiawatha paddle-wheel river boat.
World of Little League Museum
Williamsport is the home of the Little League World Series and the founder of Little League. The World of Little League Museum is a place to learn about this history as well as the positive, worldwide impact of Little League today. With interactive exhibits that will have you running, jumping, and learning, this is a great attraction for the whole family, and may spark fond memories for many.
You’ll see a group of flags on one side of the parking lot – from this overlook you can view the historic stadium where the Little League World Series is played.

The Thomas Taber Museum
Located at one end of Millionaires Row, it’s a treat just to drive to this museum and view all the historic mansions along the way. The museum itself is chock full of local history, from Native American history to the underground railroad to the lumber boom. To my children’s delight, it also contains an enormous model train collection and a very fancy historic doll house. There are also immigration records located in the museum where you may be able to discover a bit of your own family history.

The Hiawatha Boat Ride
The Hiawatha, “Queen of the Susquehanna,” is an old-fashioned, simulated paddle-wheel excursion boat which has been entertaining visitors since the 1980’s. It is a beautiful, festive-looking vessel that provides a smooth and peaceful ride on the river. The ride is about an hour, and the view from the top level is lovely. If an escape from the heat is needed, the bottom level is air conditioned, and there is a small bar where you can purchase a small snack, soda, beer, or mixed drink. Tours in the summer are at 12:00, 2:00, or 4:00.
